F. Scott Fitzgerald was born on September 24, 1896 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He dropped out of school to join the U.S. Army. Scared he was going to die in the line of duty without fulfilling his literary dreams, Scott F. Fitzgerald hastily wrote a novel called Romantic Egoist. The success of his first novel made him famous and later let him marry the woman he loved. Following the unsuccessful Tender is the Night, Fitzgerald moved to Hollywood to become a scriptwriter. With only half of his final book completed, he died of a heart attack in 1940.
