F. Scott Fitzgerald achieved fortune and fame for his first novel, This Side of Paradise. It was the first novel to anticipate the pleasure-seeking generation of the 20's. A novel similar to this one, The Beautiful and Damned and two short stories he wrote increased his popularity. During his time, The Great Gatsby was one of Fitzgerald's early works, but it was his masterpiece and the first of three successive novels that gave him lasting literary importance.
